Postpartum Period

Postpartum Period

During the postpartum week, a postpartum care provider will be with you for the first 8 days. We’ll also stop by regularly. Of course, we provide “personalized care” here as well, and the frequency and duration of our visits will depend on your situation.

There is plenty of time to discuss questions and issues. We provide medical checkups, give (Breast)feeding counseling, discuss emotions and talk After the birth. We always consult with the postpartum care provider. If she has any concerns, she’ll discuss them with us. If you have any questions or problems, you can always contact us—even in the evening or at night.

The first 6 weeks

You will receive care from us during the first 6 weeks after giving birth. Once your postpartum care provider has left, the community nurse will contact you within 14 days. Care related to nutrition, weight, and vaccinations will then be provided by the child health clinic are granted.

Follow-up Inspection

Six weeks after giving birth, you are welcome to come see us during our office hours for a postpartum checkup. This checkup is a good time to ask questions or discussing the childbirth. For this reason, the follow-up visit is scheduled, whenever possible, with the person who attended your delivery.

The first few weeks after giving birth might not go as you expected. If you find yourself experiencing feelings of gloom If you notice this, we recommend that you bring it up during the follow-up consultation. If these feelings are particularly strong, it may indicate a postpartum depression or an increased risk of it. For more information on this topic, please contact the Mental Health Fund.

During the first few weeks of the pregnancy, we ended up at Aan de Laak. Our first instinct was: “That’s where we need to be!“ And we were right! The very first phone call, when we asked if we could sign up, immediately put us at ease. We were heading into an unfamiliar period, with all the questions we had, the anxiety, and the first little discomforts! They put us at ease right away. The intimate, small-scale setting made us feel right at home. Everyone hears you and knows you. They’re available 24/7. You can call them even for the smallest things—to discuss something or just to share your story. And if necessary, they’ll be at your door as soon as possible, or they’ll schedule appointments at the hospital for you. They’re not just there for the baby and the mother—they’re also a listening ear for you as a (soon-to-be) family. We’re so grateful to the ladies at Aan de Laak and look back on a special time they were a part of.

The ladies at Aandelaak were my midwives during three pregnancies. During the first two, I also participated in the Centering Pregnancy sessions, which I highly recommend, by the way! The ladies are personable, warm, decisive, friendly, well-informed, and genuinely interested. During my last pregnancy with our twins, I had my checkups at the hospital, but Aandelaak still called me every so often to check in and see how I was doing. Even after the (premature) birth, we stayed in close contact, and I felt incredibly supported. They make sure that both during and after your pregnancy, you feel seen and that they can support you wherever needed. – Esmee Blom-Gommans
