The transition from the second to the third trimester!
Baby
The baby is growing to the size of a celery about the size of a Cucumber (34.5 to 40 cm).
The skin The baby's skin was completely transparent, but this will gradually fade. The skin is taking on a pinkish-red hue. This is due to the tiny blood vessels beneath the skin.
The baby is also getting more and more bold on his body. He’s growing taller, but he’s also gaining a lot of weight! Not only is the baby getting chubbier, but he’s also stronger ...! At this stage, you'll often be able to see the baby moving through your belly!
The face The baby is becoming more and more human-like. Eyebrows, eyelids, and lips are becoming more and more distinct. Development in the head is also continuing. The brain cells They are becoming increasingly specialized. As a result, their senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch) continue to develop.
The lungs During this period, the lungs undergo significant development. More branches of the airways form. The lungs begin to produce a substance (surfactant) that is necessary to keep the lungs open. Hiccups help further prepare the lungs for breathing outside the womb.
If a baby is about to be born at 25 weeks, there will be a fight to save the baby's life. At that point, the baby is viable That’s what they say. Just know that things are still very uncertain during the 25th through 30th weeks! Every day counts during this time. The brain cells, lungs, and all the other organs still have a long way to go in their development! So let’s really hope the baby stays nice and warm inside you!
You
The baby is (thankfully) really getting bigger. And so is your belly! This can cause you to experience more discomfort. Here are a few Common Ailments and Tips for Dealing with Them:
- Calf cramps—especially bad at night! Stretch as soon as possible! Massaging your legs before bed can help, and try to drink plenty of water throughout the day! If none of this works, taking extra magnesium through your diet or a dietary supplement may help.
- Pelvic discomfort can actually start earlier in pregnancy, but during these weeks of pregnancy, a large percentage of pregnant women really do experience it! This is because the pelvis becomes more flexible. This is helpful because the pelvis needs to open up slightly to allow the baby to pass through. The downside is that this can also cause discomfort. Need advice if you’re experiencing symptoms? Pay close attention to your posture, get plenty of rest, and don’t hesitate to reach out to a therapist! https://aandelaak.nl/de-praktijk/samenwerkende-disciplines/
- Poor sleep… Because of the symptoms mentioned above, frequent trips to the bathroom, then not being able to fall back asleep, then starting to dream, and so on and so forth…. There are plenty of possible reasons! Try to wind down before bed (no TV or phone), read a book, book a massage (or have your partner give you one 😉), and don’t eat or drink too much before bed! If none of this helps, let us know!
