You're pregnant! What now? In the information below, we'll go over when it's best to call us and what to expect during this first call. By going over this in advance, you'll know what information is helpful to have on hand when you call.
When should you call your midwife?
It's great that you're calling us within the first week after taking a positive pregnancy test. That gives us time to schedule an initial appointment with echo (if desired) to schedule an appointment. We’d also like to go over some information that’s important for the first few weeks. If there are any special circumstances before your first appointment, we’ll already know who you are and how far along you are in your pregnancy.
What information would you like to know?
- General Information: name, date of birth, marital status, phone number, home address, email address.
- Your partner's information (if applicable): name, date of birth, and phone number.
- Cycle: We'd love to hear what the the first day of your last period is. Sometimes this date isn't known, but that's not a problem. We'd also like to know when the positive pregnancy test was. We'd also like to know if birth control was used.
We also ask whether you conceived naturally. If you conceived through fertility treatment, we’d also like to hear about that process. - We would like to know if there is a first or subsequent pregnancy. If you have been pregnant before, we would like to hear a brief account of how that pregnancy (or those pregnancies) went, if we are not already aware of it.
- Details in the medical history Any information that may be relevant can also be mentioned.
What information do we provide?
During our first phone call, we'll go over important information for the first part of your pregnancy.
- We'll tell you more about the practice and how the first appointments will go
- We will provide information about the first ultrasounds
- We will provide advice on the use of folic acid and vitamin D
- We'll also go over information about our health care. Including how the first appointment went. Also, information about the echoes will be reviewed. How it works and what is important.
- We'll briefly discuss the follow-up inspections and the choice between standard care and Centering on Pregnancy.
- For your first appointment, it would be helpful if you could review some information about any additional steps you might need to take. investigate. We'll give you a brief overview of this over the phone.
We will then send you detailed information and an appointment confirmation via (secure) email to you all. It's a good idea to go over this now and fill out the attached questionnaire in advance.
