Weeks 20 through 25 of pregnancy

Weeks 20 through 25 of pregnancy

Past the halfway point! We’re entering the last 20 weeks or so of the pregnancy! Maybe a little longer… Maybe a little shorter.

You

You’ll start to notice your belly growing now! Your uterus will rise above your belly button. Your abdominal muscles will have a hard time keeping up, causing your belly to protrude more. There’s no hiding the fact that you’re pregnant anymore! Everyone experiences this differently. Some people love having a pregnant belly, while others don’t at all! How you feel can also vary greatly throughout your pregnancy—from fantastic to terrible, and everything in between! Be honest about this and feel free to discuss your feelings with us!

You may experience dizziness. This is caused by what’s known as the “mid-pregnancy drop”—a drop in blood pressure that reaches its lowest point around 20 weeks. This can make you feel dizzy, so be sure to get up slowly!

Baby

The baby is growing quite a bit again—about 10 cm. From the size of a grapefruit to that of a stalk of celery.

The baby's eyes open for the first time. Hair begins to grow, and the baby can hear more and more sounds. The baby's skin was very transparent at first. It will now gradually become more pink.

The baby is viable at 24 weeks. He or she is still very fragile, but if he or she were to be born, the doctors would fight to save his or her life.

Course

This is a great time to take a course or start one! There are lots of great courses you can take to prepare. Good preparation is very important! Check out Prenatal Classes – Aandelaak Midwives
